Description

Public concern towards the threat from nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction has diminished since the end of the cold war and in a deteriorating global security environment the regimes and instruments established to prevent their proliferation have become the targets of mis and disinformation.
To meet the threat, and to broaden understanding of the architecture of non-proliferation, and the scientific tools verifying compliance, the project Trust in Science was launched in November 2024 by Atomic Reporters in cooperation with the Asser Institute in the Hague.
Its broad goal is to proactively meet the threats of mis and disinformation by bridging gaps in understanding about the success of multi-lateral agreements such as the CTBT, CWC and others that are curbing WMD threats through science and diplomacy.
The project brings together specialists and representatives of various cohorts - initially journalists – In interactive workshops for the exchange of information and recommended responses to broaden understanding about non-proliferation regimes and verification. Journalists are information multipliers and vulnerable to disinformation. Civil society, women and minorities, youth organizations supporting non-proliferation efforts, and other communities will also be targeted.
