Description
This keynote is devoted to the strongest Kamchatka earthquake since 1952 (July 29, 2025, Mw = 8.8). This earthquake ranks among the top ten strongest events of the instrumental era. Preliminary results from processing regional data recorded by the Kamchatka Regional Seismological Observation System are presented. The seismic history of the region, tectonic setting, aftershock process, macroseismic summary, and source process features are discussed. The response of the Rapid Notification Service and the Tsunami Warning Service is outlined, and the earthquake's consequences are discussed.
