Description
The CTBT enjoys universal support in Africa. However, not all African states appreciate or utilise the benefits of closer cooperation with the CTBTO PrepCom to, for example, achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the African Union's Agenda 2063. Hence, the paper intends to analyse and assess the status and utilisation of the CTBT in Africa. The aim is four-fold. The first aim is to position the CTBT in the development agenda of the continent. The second aim is to analyse the cooperation between African states and the CTBTO PrepCom, whereas the third aim is to explore areas of potential and closer cooperation. In the final instance, the aim is to determine the application of the CTBT regime for disaster management, the detection and management of nuclear waste, and the management of the legacy of nuclear tests in Africa, and its territorial waters.
