DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Alberto Ubaldini (Italian National Agency for New Te
chnologies\, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development (ENEA)\, Italy)\,
Antonietta Rizzo (Italian National Agency for New Technologies\, Energy a
nd Sustainable Economic Development (ENEA)\, Italy)\, Chiara Telloli (Ital
ian National Agency for New Technologies\, Energy and Sustainable Economic
Development (ENEA)\, Italy)\, Salvi Stefano (Italian National Agency for
New Technologies\, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development (ENEA)\, It
aly)\, Elena Marrocchino (University of Ferrara\, Italy)\, Carmela Vaccaro
(University of Ferrara\, Italy)\n\nThe ENEA Traceability Laboratory in Bo
logna utilizes a portable HPGe gamma spectrometer Trans-SPEC-DX-100T for i
n situ monitoring campaigns and to evaluate the possible presence of radio
isotopes in the environment (e.g. waste assay measurements\, emergency res
ponse\, nuclear safeguards inspection).\nThe instrument is also used in th
e laboratory to characterize radioisotope concentrations in samples from d
ifferent sources: ie contaminated environmental soils\, food with differen
t radioisotopes absorption rates\, nuclear materials.\nThe gamma monitorin
g technique is allowed to be used during an On-Site Inspection by the Trea
ty. The specific instrumentation to be used has to be included in the draf
t list of the equipment for OSI. \nA good characterization of the monitore
d site needs the capability to observe a small variation on the activity c
oncentrations and the capacity to lower the background contribution.\nIn o
rder to use the instrument to its full capacity and potential\, a transpor
table shielding has been designed and built-in collaboration with the Univ
ersity of Ferrara\, taking into account a good balance between transportab
ility and performance of the system. \nThe results of a monitoring campaig
n with and without shielding will be shown and the need to include shieldi
ng in the draft list of auxiliary equipment will be discussed.\n\nhttps://
